A 35-year-old Bricklayer, Onyekachi Samuel, was on Thursday  arraigned in a Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, over an alleged breach of trust and building blocks theft.

Samuel of Lugbe Zone 5, Abuja, is facing charges bordering on criminal breach of trust, cheating by impersonating and theft.

The prosecutor, Francis Gabriel, had told the court that the matter was reported at Trademore Police Station, Abuja, on July 13, by one Esther Ndukwe of Lugbe Air Port Road, Abuja.

Gabriel informed the court that the complainant bought 8,000 pieces of blocks valued N 1.3 Million from one Mrs Uloma Chijoke Block industry located at Pyakasa village Lugbe.

He alleged that the defendant went to the Block industry under the pretence that he was conveying the 8,000 blocks to the complainant’s site.

He told the court that the defendant went to the said block industry without the consent of the complainant and carried the blocks and dishonestly sold it and converted the proceeds to his own use.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the defendant was caught and arrested in Ekiti State and confessed to the crime and all efforts to recover the money has proved

abortive.

Ganriel said the offences contravened Sections 312, 324 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, while the Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq ,

granted him bail  in the sum of N 1 million, with one surety in like sum.

Sadiq said the surety must deposit N700,000 to the court registry and the surety must have reasonable means of livelihood and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, which must be verified by the police orderly.

He adjourned the case until Sept. 15 for hearing.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the defendant could not meet the terms of her bail and was therefore taken to the Suleja Correctional Facility.
