Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, the Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University Okada(IUO), says the university has produced some Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ezemonye made this known during a birthday lecture in honour of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Chancellor of IUO on Thursday in Okada.
He said the university produced customised WHO standard face mask, hand sanitisers which were distributed free of charge to staff, foot mechanical hand and decontaminating chamber.
Ezemonye said the university also produced soaps and bleach for decontaminating surfaces and acquisition of hand held thermometers for temperature checks.
“In accordance with the university approved research policy, a number of researches have been established.
“In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the university is currently conducting a research on “Antiviral and Immunostimulatory Evaluation of Polyhedral Formulation (DACP-1).
“The outcome of the research on the Development of Polyherbal Drug is expected to boost immune system due to its inherent immunostimulant property,” he said.
Ezemonye advised the general public to stay safe, practice social distancing and always wear face masks.
