…We’re not involved, EFCC alerts Nigerians

Controversy is now trailing the conduct of security operatives who , on Friday, conducted a search on the residence of a Justice of Supreme Court (JSC), Justice Mary Odili, in Maitama, Abuja.

Justice Odili is the wife of a former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili, who is currently on the watchlist of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The security operatives, comprising soldiers and officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), were said to have identified themselves as members of a Joint Task Force.

The security operatives, who reportedly came with a search warrant, were said to have claimed that they received information on “illegal activities” taking place in the house.

The development was said to have prompted heavy security presence involving police officers and soldiers while some persons were also sitting at the front of Justice Odili’s residence.

Incidentally, the security operatives were said not to have found anything of interest in relation to the alleged illegal activities and reportedly left the residence after about an hour.

But the EFCC has debunked the media report of its involvement in certain online medium, saying that none of its operatives was involved in the search.

The EFCC’s Head, Media & Publicity, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, stated this in a statement made available to Theideal last night.

The statement reads in part, “The attention of the EFCC has been drawn to claims in a section of the media that operatives of the Commission today, October 29, 2021 stormed the Maitama, Abuja home of a Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili, purportedly to execute a search.

“The Commission by this statement wishes to inform the public that the report is false as it did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili.

“If there was any such operation as claimed by the media, it was not carried out by the EFCC.

“The Commission urges the public to discountenance the report.”
