Following calls from diverse quarters asking him to contest the 2023 presidency, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has disclosed that he will join the presidential race by February ending after consultations with stakeholders nationwide.
Tambuwal, who spoke during an interview with journalists after commissioning the new head office of the Sokoto State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he heard all the appeals by elders, women, youths and party scribes, saying that he would inform them of his decision after wide consultations.
He said “I have listen to all the appeals and calls by our elders, women, youths and party faithful, urging me to contest the 2023 Presidency. All I can say for now in response to their appeals is that I will begin consultations from February to the end of the month”.
Tambuwal, who stated that leadership comes from God, added that he will continue to appreciate the people of the state and the entire Nigerians for their continued support.
The Sokoto women had in their earlier calls, threatened to approach the court, asking it to compel Tambuwal to contest should he declined to accept their request.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Sokoto State Commissioner for Social Welfare, Prof Aisha Madawaki, said Tambuwal is not just a leader but a tested and trusted one that has the capacity and competence to pilot the affairs of Nigeria.
Madawaki, who said the women’s resolution was a product of due consultations with other women nationwide, which clearly showed that Tambuwal is the best option for Nigeria and Nigerians judging by his unifying pedigree, added that the women will stop at nothing to ensure that Sokoto Governor heed their calls.
One of the state’s top-notch politicians, Umarun Kwobo (Jarman Sokoto) said Tambuwal is a politician worthy of emulation due to his numerous cherished characteristics and track records of successes.
He therefore called on Tambuwal to once again accept their collective calls to vie for Presidency of Nigeria in 2023.
He said, “All we need from you is to accept our calls. Marketing your personality is an easy task for us as you have been tested and trusted.
“Many Nigerians have been calling to ask us when will Tambuwal declare his intention to run for the presidency of this great country?
“Majority of our friends from across all divides in Nigeria kept telling us to pressurize Tambuwal to throw his hat into the ring and leave them with the job of mobilising Nigerians.
“They kept saying, Tambuwal has been tested, performed beyond expectations, trusted without questions and ever committed to a unified, progressive Nigeria for all where equity, justice, love and all inclusive policies remain the order of the day.
“We are confident by their calls as we can all attest to how Tambuwal united Nigerians as the Speaker of the 7th National Assembly” Jarman Sokoto added.
Speaking on behalf of the Sokoto Elders Forum, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Bawan Allah and Alhaji Sahabi Tungar Kwangi said the clarion call on Tambuwal to contest for the presidency was their collective decision, having seen the multiple successes of Tambuwal in Sokoto and beyond.
