*Defeats Aregbesola’s candidate with 222,169 votes as Adeoti gets 12, 921

Incumbent Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has been declared as the winner of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held on Saturday.

Oyetola defeated the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola’s preferred candidate, Moshood Adeoti, with a wide margin of 222,169 votes while Adeoti received a paltry 12,921 votes.

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Lasun Yusuf, got a distant third position of 460 votes.

Announcing the results in the early hours of Sunday, the Chairman of the governorship primary committee and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said Oyetola won in all the 30 local government areas in the state.

The Kwara Governor added that A total of 408,697 voters registered in the primary election of the party while 247,207 voters were accredited to vote.

According to him, the total vote cast and valid votes were 235,550.

In Aregbesola’s Ifofin Ward 8, Ilesa East Local Government, Oyetola won with 309 votes while Adeoti came second with 146 votes.

Lasun Yusuf also lost in his Ward 5, Ilobu as he received 10 votes, while Oyetola polled 323 votes just as Adeoti got 62 votes.

Showing that politics is local, Oyetola showed strength in his Iragbiji Ward 1, Saint Peters Primary School, Iragbiji, where he received 1,612 votes while Adeoti and Yusuf got no vote.

But Aregbesola-led faction of the APC has rejected the results on the grounds of manipulations and irregularities.

Aregbesola’s Media Aide, Mr Sola Fasure, also listed the irregularities during the primary and disclosed that the faction will go to court to challenge the outcome of the primary election.
