The Young Communicators Initiative (TYCI) says it is set for the inauguration of its Train and Empower Teachers (TET) Project, scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 7, 2023, in Abuja.

The TYCI is a free capacity development organisation for teachers In Nigeria, with an objective to be vanguard of literacy development through intellectual capacity development and empowerment.

The non-governmental organization said the event with the theme: “Teachers Come Collaborate and Learn,” is aimed at improving the quality of education in Nigeria.

According to a statement by TYCI’s Lead Coordinator, Chinenye Priscilla Anaemena-Alu, the initiative was borne from the need to improve teacher’s capacity to impact students by re-training and empowering the teachers with relevant skills.

“To improve the quality of education in Nigeria, schools must end the competition and embrace collaboration, irrespective of the curriculum, day or boarding, public or private, single gender or mixed school. Because in the end, we all have a common goal, training the Nigerian child to become a solution provider for the good of the society, while equipping the teachers in partnership with their parents to achieve this goal.”

She explained that at TYCI, impactful, collaborative and practical-based training are held for teachers, where facilitators do not just train but also give room for representatives of various schools to collaborate, learn, share their experiences, ask questions relevant to learning and the education sector at large through a roundtable discussion.

She pointed out that the role of teachers is not only in delivering scheme to achieve academic progress but also all-round development which cuts across physical, social and emotional development of the students.

“Our drive is the passion to train teachers who will not just collaborate with their counterparts across the globe but train teachers who would train their students to collaborate and stand out in the world,” Anaemena-Alu added.
