• Says interpretation of 25% votes in FCT fallacious, ludicrous
The Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Wednesday, educated the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi over their spurious claims on the status of Abuja.
The tribunal also declared that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) cannot be treated specially in the election as it is not superior to any of the 36 states in the federation.
The PEPC also stated that the interpretation of the 25 percent votes cast in the FCT by the lawyers to the LP is not only fallacious but ludicrous.
The tribunal further reminded the LP and Obi that the framers of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) did not contemplate a situation where a particular place or group of voters in FCT would be superior to any state in Nigeria.
The tribunal said, “With due respect to counsel to the petitioners, their interpretation of the provision of the constitution, as regards the 25 percent in Abuja, is fallacious if not completely ludicrous.”
