*Adedoyin, 6 others to remain in prison
The Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Adepele Ojo, on Friday, reserved ruling on bail application by the owner of Hilton Hotel and Resort, Ile-Ife, Dr Raymon Adedoyin, and six other defendants over the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
The prosecuting Oyo State Government has brought Adedoyin and six of his workers, Adedeji Adesola, Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwale Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, and Adebayo Kunle before Justice Ojo and arraigned them on 11-count charge of alleged conspiracy to commit murder, murder, felony, altering of evidence, administering of extrajudicial oath and other offences.
The bail applications of Adedoyin and six other defendants were moved on Thursday while that of the seventh defendant, Adesola Adedeji, could not be moved as she was just included in the amended charge before the court.
When the matter came up on Friday, the prosecuting lawyer for the Osun State Government, Mr. M. Omosun, told the court that Adedoyin and other six defendants, having been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Facility, could not be brought to court.
Moving the bail application for Adesola, her lawyer, Okon Ita, pleaded with the court to proceed without the defendants, since the day’s proceeding was just to move the application.
Pleading with the court to admit the defendant to bail in most liberal terms, Ita said he adopted the application, supported by a 29-paragraph affidavit, the lone exhibit and the attached written address.
He urged the court to consider the exhibit, which is the medical report of the defendant, and accord her exceptional status as provided by section 156 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of the state.
But Omosun opposed the bail application and adopted his counter affidavit. He also informed the court that he was relying on the affidavit deposed to by ASP John Idoko and the attached written address.
In her pronouncement on the bail applications, Justice Ojo urged lawyers to inform the Senior Advocates that she will be ruling on all the bail applications on Monday and proceed on hearing the matter on a daily basis.
The Osun CJ added that the case will not be subjected to unnecessary adjournment, saying that she intend to dispense the case within six months.
