Former Anambra State Governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife is dead.

Aged 85, Ezeife died on Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja at about 6pm after battling with undisclosed illness.

Ezeife’s death came some weeks after the demise of another former governor of the state, Chinweoke Mbadinuju’s burial in his Uli, Ihiala local government area of the state.

The announcement was contained in a statement released by the family, through his younger brother, Chief Rob Ezeife.

The statement reads in part: “On behalf of the Ezeife Dynasty of Igbo-Ukwu, I wish to announce the promotion to glory of our most distinguished son, Okwadike, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former Federal Permanent Secretary, the first Executive Governor of Anambra State, a former Political Adviser to the President and former Presidential Aspirant.”

“This sad event took place yesterday at 6pm at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja. More details about the deceased and the arrangements for his State Burial will be announced later.”

The former governor was born at Igbo-Ukwu, Anambra State on November 20, 1939.
