With few hours to the Anambra State governorship election on Saturday, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Usman Alkali Baba, has removed the Deputy Inspector General, DIG Joseph Egbunike as the head of the security team for the election.

When contacted on the development, Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba confirmed that DIG Egbunike has stepped down.

But no reason was given for the removal of Egbunike, who is an indigene of Anambra State.

Meanwhile, Egbunike has been replaced with Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Zaki Ahmed.

Public Relations Officer attached to the Anambra Election Monitoring Team, DSP Nkeiruka Nwode while announcing the sudden change of baton, said the development would not affect the conduct of the election.

Theideal recalls that IGP Baba has assured residents of Anambra State of adequate security, saying that the policemen won’t compromise on the grounds that their allowances have been paid ahead of the election.
