The All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) on Friday, with party leaders expected to finalise the date for its national convention and deliberate on strategic issues ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Although the official agenda has not been released, Daily Trust gathered from insiders that the NEC will consider and possibly fix a date for the party’s national convention. Key issues discussed and adopted by the National Caucus on Thursday are expected to be transmitted to the NEC for final approval.

Insiders said the committee would also address the growing wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC and discuss strategies for managing anticipated challenges during next year’s party primaries.

Other matters slated for discussion include electronic membership registration, and the timetable for ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses. The NEC is also expected to review plans for retaining Ekiti State and reclaiming Osun State in the 2026 governorship elections, as well as strategies to strengthen internal reconciliation.

Sources noted that fixing a date for the national convention has become urgent to resolve lingering internal issues. The convention is also expected to ratify the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as the party’s substantive national chairman.

Yilwatda emerged as national chairman on July 24 during the party’s 14th NEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on June 27.

The NEC meeting will hold at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and is expected to be attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, NWC members, state chairmen, and other party leaders.

In a statement, National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru, National Caucus and NEC meetings were rescheduled from December 15 and 16 to December 18 and 19.
