The Head of the Catholic Church in Belarus has been prohibited from entering the country, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko says in comments carried by state media.

β€œHe is not the only one. He is just a better-known person,’’ Lukashenko says, commenting on why Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz had not been allowed to re-enter the country after a trip to neighbouring Poland.

β€œIt does not matter whether he is the main Catholic, the main Orthodox or the main Muslim.

β€œHe has to live by the law.

β€œThere is a double responsibility if you mix church and politics,’’ Lukashenko said in comments carried by state news agency BelTA.

Kondrusiewicz claims he was refused re-entry into Belarus on Monday after a pastoral trip to Poland’s Podlachia region, just across the border from Belarus.

β€œNo argumentation was given, in spite me being a Belarusian citizen,’’ Kondrusiewicz said in comments carried by Poland’s Catholic information agency, KAI.
