The Head of the Catholic Church in Belarus has been prohibited from entering the country, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko says in comments carried by state media.
βHe is not the only one. He is just a better-known person,ββ Lukashenko says, commenting on why Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz had not been allowed to re-enter the country after a trip to neighbouring Poland.
βIt does not matter whether he is the main Catholic, the main Orthodox or the main Muslim.
βHe has to live by the law.
βThere is a double responsibility if you mix church and politics,ββ Lukashenko said in comments carried by state news agency BelTA.
Kondrusiewicz claims he was refused re-entry into Belarus on Monday after a pastoral trip to Polandβs Podlachia region, just across the border from Belarus.
βNo argumentation was given, in spite me being a Belarusian citizen,ββ Kondrusiewicz said in comments carried by Polandβs Catholic information agency, KAI.
