Bandits, on Sunday, reportedly killed over 50 persons during an attack on the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Apart from worshippers, the bandits were also said to have killed passerby through stray bullets.
Witnesses further stated the attack occurred during the church’s Sunday service.
The worship centre is directly behind the palace of the Olowo of Owo.
A witness, Kehinde Ogunkorode, said the incident caused pandemonium in the area as residents, who were taken by surprise, ran for safety.
It was further gathered that explosives were also detonated by the gunmen inside the premises of the church.
