In what can be regarded as unusual endorsement of a governor from opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and support for a worthy cause, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has declared support for President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that the President will complete his eight years in office.
Eno, who was elected in 2023 on the platform of the PDP, spoke on Tuesday during the flag-off of the Akwa Ibom segment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
According to the Akwa Ibom Governor, there is the need to back Tinubu for second term and ensure the early completion of Lagos-Calabar Highway Project, saying that the development will prevent the non-completion of the laudable project unlike what happened to East-West Road that is yet to be completed after many years of construction.
He said: “Let me end by assuring our President, our people loving President, who will complete eight years because we are going to stand by him, and this is the truth.“You cannot start this work and abandon it, somebody else may not finish it.
“Our prayer for Mr President is for good health, for him to finish the good work he has started, and Commission it so that this work will not be abandoned.
“It will not be like the East-West Road that has stayed there forever. This one will be finished and the hands that have started will finish it in Jesus Name, Amen.
“We will continue to collaborate with the administration of Mr President because he has shown us love and has worked with us across Party lines and we will continue to work with him across party lines. We will continue to work with him to spread the news of prosperity, deepen our unity and faith.”
