A lecturer with the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), Nasarawa State, Dr Fred Ayokhai, has been remanded in prison alongside three of his children over brutal assault on a friend of his daughter.
The 53-year-old associate professor in the Department of History and International Studies of FULAFIA, was seen in a viral video assaulting a 20-year-old Miss Blessing Mathias.
Mathias is a friend of the daughter of the university lecturer, Emmanuela Ayokhai. The two ladies were said to have had a misunderstanding over a boyfriend while Emmanuela was allegedly beaten up in the process.
In retaliation, Emmanuela reportedly came with her family members, including her father, to brutally assault Mathias.
Incidentally, the infamous action was recorded and later posted online, leading to outrage by internet users.
The police promptly swung into action and on Wednesday, arraigned the lecturer, his daughter, Emmanuela, 21-year-old Saint-Dan Ayokhai and 23-year-old Bob Praise Ayokhai before the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu.
The police also slammed the suspects with a six-count charge of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking and criminal force or assault to a woman with intent to outrage modesty, kidnapping and inflicting physical injury on another.
According to the police, the offences are contrary to Section 97 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, Section 3(1) & 4 of the Nasarawa State Kidnapping (Prohibition) Law, 2019, Section 268(2) & 354 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria and Section 3(1) of the Nasarawa State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2019.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, Mr Ramhan Nansel, also disclosed that the suspects have been remanded in prison custody pending formal arraignment while the case has been assigned to a judge for trial.
How the show of shame started in Lafia:
The FULAFIA senior lecturer and his entire family reportedly joined forces to retaliate earlier attack on her daughter (Emmanuela) and violently assaulted Mathias for fighting their daughter over a boyfriend.
According to Instablog, Dr. Ayokhai was on Friday, October 21, captured on video, beating up Mathias, who allegedly fought his daughter over allegation of boyfriend snatching.
Mathias reportedly confronted Emmanuella for trying to snatch her boyfriend, simply identified as IG.
Mathias later approached Emmanuela in Lafia, Nasarawa State, after she found out that she had her boyfriend’s number and was chatting with him.
She (Mathias) was said to have asked Emmanuela to delete the number but she blatantly refused, leading to a fight.
In a retaliatory move against Mathias in the viral video, Emmanuela, in company of her father, her brother, Praise Shola; and other family members, stormed Blessing’s home to give her the most inhuman treatment.
In the videos recorded by the family, the family members were seen using sticks, belt, other objects to savagely attack Mathias before forcing her into their car.
The video later showed Mathias inside a car in a deserted place where she was pleading for mercy.
But the university lecturer was seen using a pair of scissors to cut Mathias’ blouse from her body and deliberately yanked off the blouse to expose her breasts to the family members.
They thereafter proceeded to mock Mathias, asking why she was covering a flabby boobs. They asked her to apologize to Emmanuela while she urged her friend to forgive her.
The family members further asked her to disclose her state of origin. Amidst sobbing and pleas for mercy, Mathias replied that she is from Taraba State.
The family members were later said to have pushed Mathias out of the car, took photographs of her naked body and abandoned her in the deserted place.
