Former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has been declared as the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman through consensus arrangement.
Jigawa State Governor Muhammadu Badaru, who coordinated the exercise through voice vote system, informed the APC delegates at the Eagle Square, venue of the convention, that Adamu was the consensus candidate for the chairmanship position.
Badaru, who is the returning officer for the convention, added that other six aspirants have stepped down in view of President Muhammadu Buhari’s admonition for consensus arrangement and the need for the party’s unity.
The voice vote in favour of Adamu was taken at about 11.05pm with resounding ‘Ayes’ while Governor Badaru thereafter announced Adamu as the new APC Chairman.
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, had earlier disclosed that the governors would support the President’s choice of national chairmanship candidate.
Speaking on behalf of the party at the national convention, the Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC Kebbi North) said that Adamu’s emergence was the decision of every stakeholder in the party.
Governor Badaru also announced a list of other consensus candidates who were elected using the voice vote method.
Some of the candidates elected through consensus arrangement include Abubakar Kyari as deputy national chairman (north) and Jamal Kabir as deputy national youth leader.
