Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the relocation of the trial of thecleader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Justice Omotosho, who issued the directive on Friday, said the decision was to facilitate the inspection of a shipping container allegedly used by Kanu to smuggle a radio transmitter into the country.
The transmitter, according to court documents, was intended for broadcasts on Radio Biafra, the outlawed station linked to IPOB’s secessionist campaign.
Kanu is currently facing terrorism-related charges stemming from his agitation for the creation of an independent Biafran state.
He has been in the custody of the DSS since his re-arrest and extradition to Nigeria in 2021. The decision to move the proceedings away from the courtroom to a more secure location underscores the sensitivity and high-profile nature of the case.
