Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has reported a significant increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), rising from N83 billion in 2023 to N158 billion in 2024, representing a 90.4% growth.

Speaking before the State House of Assembly in Asaba on Wednesday, Oborevwori projected that the state’s IGR would further increase to N165 billion in 2025.

“We achieved this growth without additional tax burdens on the people of Delta.

“In line with our pro-people governance approach, we have ensured that personal tax liabilities remain unchanged,” he said.

The governor attributed the growth to the state’s conducive business environment, peace-building efforts, and impactful infrastructure projects, as well as the professionalism and diligence of the State Internal Revenue Service in plugging revenue leakages.

On debt servicing, he disclosed a reduction in the state’s debt stock from N465.3 billion at the start of his administration to N249.2 billion by December 2024, a 46.4% decrease.

He also highlighted the implementation of a N77,500 minimum wage, surpassing the national benchmark, and noted the recruitment of 13,497 new teaching and non-teaching staff to address manpower gaps in the state’s local government councils.

Oborevwori detailed initiatives aimed at enhancing the public service, including training for over 8,000 public servants, comprehensive leadership programs for 450 senior management staff, and the signing of performance bonds by commissioners as part of the MORE agenda strategic retreat.

“These notable accomplishments in the public service affirm the administration’s unwavering resolve to build a robust, efficient, and professional civil service,” he stated.

Permanent Secretaries received brand-new vehicles to enhance operational efficiency, and promotion interviews were conducted for over 2,193 officers, emphasizing career progression within the workforce.
