Legendary singer, Diana Ross, on Monday night, kept guests on their feet with her evergreen songs as Nigerians asked for more at THISDAY Awards Night in commemoration of the newspaper’s three decades on the newsstands.

It is instructive to note that 80-year-old Diana Ross did not disappoint music loving Nigerians at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos as she entered the stage with her award winning song- I’m coming out” while the popular tune elicited loud ovation and applause from the audience.

The ageless singer thereafter increased the tempo by dishing out some of her 20 best songs including “Upside Down”, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and other memorable songs. It was a vintage Diana Ross in spite of her old age

The American singer and actress, who is also known as the “Queen of Motown Records”, was the lead singer of the vocal group the Supremes while she became Motown’s most successful artiste during the 1960s and one of the world’s best-selling girl groups of all time.

This is not the first time Diana Ross will be headlining the THISDAY awards. In 2007, at the Muson Centre, she also honoured the newspaper’s invitation to headline the 12th edition of the award at the time.

During the awards presentation on Sunday, THISDAY also honoured some of Nigeria’s ‘Tough and Resilient’ individuals and institutions in selected fields of endeavours.

The ceremony tagged: “When the Going Gets Tough… the Tough Gets Rewarded!” also covered several categories, including: ‘Governor of the Year’, ‘Minister of the Year’, Lifetime Achievement Award’, Titans of The Year’; ‘Brand of the Year’; ‘Government Agency of the Year’; ‘Investor of the Year’; ‘Young Global Leaders of the Year’, among several others.
