The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa,  has said that the commission is doing its best in  ensuring  that Diaspora voting tops the agenda of the ongoing constitutional review at the National Assembly.

Dabiri-Erewa stated this during her opening remarks on the occasion of the 2021 National Diaspora Day Virtual Conference with a theme tiled: “Diaspora Integration for National Peace and Development”.

She said, “As part of the mandate of NiDCOM, the leadership and team of the  Commission is putting its best at ensuing that the issue of Diaspora Voting tops the agenda of the current Constitutional Review by the National Assembly, I assure you that both Committees on Diaspora and our Civil Society Organizations are strongly supporting Diaspora Voting to be  actualized in Nigeria in the shortest possible time, especially with the contributions of the Nigerians in Diaspora to national development .

“The Nigeria in Diaspora Commission is barely two years and is delighted to inform you that your tremendous achievements and your roles as good ambassadors is known and acknowledged and we celebrate you always.

“The Commission is there to tell these stories and showcase your achievements as well as assist you at your areas of need.  There is also the need to share best practice and elevate our country to the organized systems enjoyed outside the shores of Nigeria”.

She also stressed the importance of peace and collaboration in national development, saying that stakeholders must ensure active collaboration for positive effect.

The NiDCOM boss said, “It is well known that development can only thrive in a peaceful environment, hence the need for the total collaboration and maximum cooperation of all Nigerians in the Diaspora to share their expertise in the use of technology and their global exposure to achieve peace and development in Nigeria.

“As we are aware,  Nigeria is home, where we have families, investments, etc. The need therefore to share ideas and techniques that will assist the country in their Post Covid-19 recovery process is very important as a peaceful environment is the best to deliver national development”.
