The General Officer Commanding, (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Uwem Bassey, on Tuesday flagged off free medical outreach in Sifawa village of Bodinga local government area of Sokoto State.
The GOC, who was represented by the Garrison Commander, 8 Division, Brigadier General Ralp Nnebeife, stated that the target for the medical outreach is to attend to 4, 000 people in the two local governments of Bodinga and Dange Shuni.
Stressing that the GOC, who also doubles as the Force Commander, Operation Hadarin Daji, is poised towards restoring lasting peace to the states of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Katsina, Nnebeife added that, the Nigerian Army is also deploying non-kinetic measures such as distribution of learning materials to schools at times.
He said, ” In line with the vision and mission of the Chef Of Army Staff (COAS), the General Officer Commanding, 8 Div, Major General Uwem Bassey is poised to end all forms of insecurity and criminality in the North- Western part of Nigeria.
“The was the reason why the GOC and his men are not going to relent until the region is secured”.
Addressing digintaries at the occasion, the 8 Div Commander, Medical and Hospital Sevices, Col Ijeoma Nwosu, said aside the core mandate of the Army, the military is also concerned about the health of the populace.
According to him, the development is the reason for a medical outreach as part of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The District Head and Sarkin Kudun Sifawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari Tambari, said the free medical outreach will go along way in the memory of locals.
He also appealed to the intending beneficiaries to conduct themselves in a manner that will guarantee orderliness.
On his part, the Director of Health Services, Bodinga local government area, Alhaji Bello Maigari Usman, said the people are greteful to the Nigerian Army for extending such gesture to them for the second time.
He said, “We are happy that even last year, this medical outreach was conducted here in Sifawa and a lot of people were healed of their health challenges. Indeed we appreciate the Garrison Commander and the GOC for renovating our hospital, hence assisting us to have more doctors and operates 24 hours daily now”.
