The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has begun  documentation and training for 46 cooks of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in Sokoto.

The participating cooks, who were drawn from the 23 local government areas of Sokoto State were trained on personal, environmental and cooking hygiene.

In his opening remarks, a Deputy Director, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Gusau, applauded the Federal Government for initiating the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).

According to him, proper documentation and training for the cooks in the NHGSFP has now become very crucial considering it’s massive benefits.

In his advice to the participants, Hon Hayatu Tafida, Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Tambuwal on Social Investment, appealed to selected participants  to endeavour to extend  the training in their respective local governments.

Tafida, who admonished them not to think they are better than others to have been selected, said they were only being favoured amongst many to extend the training.

On his part, the representative of the 23 LG Education Secretary, Lema  Binaci,  who spoke on behalf of Hon Altine Kajiji, the Chairman of SUBEB, urged participants to ask questions that will enable them better understand what they are being taught.

Binaci, who admitted that the gains of the NHGSFP in Sokoto like most other states across the federation include massive enrollment and prayed that the policy should go beyond the present administration as it has the potential to  pull children out of illiteracy.

The Sokoto State Programme Manager of NHGSFP, Hon Abubakar Girkau, said the nationwide documentation and training of cooks on the programme was a welcome development.
