The much awaited collation of results over Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State has begun in Benin City, the state capital.

The formalities for the announcement began at about 11:41am on Sunday at the conference hall of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Edo State, Benin City

The INEC National Commissioner in charge of the election, Prof Rhoda Gumus, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Anugbum Omuoha and other key officials were seated before the commencement of the collation.

In his opening remarks at the collation centre, Omuoha vowed that nothing would make the commission fail Edo people during the ongoing governorship election process.
He added that the people’s wish would be reflected in the end, calling for patience and understanding

The Returning Officer for the election, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State, Prof Faruk Kuta, urged party agents and other stakeholders to maintain peace during the exercise.
