Diezani

*Says extradition process on course as she has case to answer in Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has welcomed with keen interest, the arraignment of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke at the Westminister’s Court in London, United Kingdom, following alleged bribery allegations.

The EFCC stated this in a statement by its spokesman, Dele Oyewale, and made available to TheIdeal News on Monday.

The anti- graft agency added that though the charges preferred against Diezani at the London court, are different from the 13-count charge of money laundering the EFCC preferred against her, it is instructive to note that criminality is criminality, irrespective of jurisdictional differences.

The commission also stated that it had commenced the trial of Diezani in Nigeria, saying that an arrest warrant has been obtained and extradition proceedings have been initiated.

According to the EFCC, Diezani’s trial is on course and she will soon have her day in Nigerian courts.

The statement reads in part, “ No crime can go unpunished. The money laundering charges for which Madueke is answerable to the EFCC, cover jurisdictions in Dubai, United Kingdom, United States of America and Nigeria.

“To bring the former Minister to trial in Nigeria, an arrest warrant has been obtained and extradition proceedings have been initiated. The Commission is on course on her trial. She will soon have her day in our courts.”
