A Justice of the Supreme Court (JSC), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has been sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ariwoola will be leading the apex court  in acting capacity, pending his recommendation to the President by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the subsequent confirmation by the Senate

The President also administered the oath of office on Ariwoola during the  swearing in ceremony  at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

Ariwoola took over from former CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammed, who resigned earlier on Monday over health grounds

It was further gathered that though Justice Mohammed was said to have resigned on the grounds of ill-health, sources close to the apex court disclosed that the former CJN was forced to quit his exalted position.

Theideal recalls that 14 JSC had openly accused Tanko Mohammed of incompetence, bad leadership and corruption.

Ariwoola studied law at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Osun State, where he bagged a Bachelor of Laws Degree with honours in July 1980.

The acting CJN was later called to the Nigerian Bar in July 1981 while he was elevated and sworn into the Supreme Court Bench on November 22, 2011.
