Nwajiuba, Onu leave cabinet ahead of Monday’s deadline
Malami, Ngige, others seeking for ’clearance’ from President before resignation
Apparently reacting to President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has resigned his appointment from the Federal Government.
This was disclosed in a statement made available last night by his aide, Jackson Udom.
Buhari had on Wednesday, directed nine ministers with political ambitions to resign on or before next week Monday.
The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, reportedly resigned his appointment before Buhari’s marching order.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu was also said to have resigned last night to beat Monday’s deadline.
But other politically-inclined ministers including the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice , Abubakar Malami and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, were said to be seeking for certain ‘clearance’ from Buhari before resigning their appointments.
Announcing Akpabio’s resignation, his media aide said, “Our attention has been drawn to mischievously written news stories making the rounds by paid agents of some politicians, that the leading presidential aspirant, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has purportedly withdrawn from the presidential race. This is a joke carried too far.
“Senator Akpabio has resigned his appointment as Minister, Niger Delta Affairs Ministry and will soon submit his nomination form at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, in line with his party’s guidelines.”
