* Undergoing interrogation over claims of Buhari’s approval for COAS’ post

* Forges  President’s signature, several documents

In what can be regarded as incredible and infamous action, operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a fake Army General, Bolarinwa Oluwasegun, following his alleged involvement in impersonating President Muhammadu Buhari and N270million fraud.

Oluwasegun, who posed as a General in the Nigerian Army, was said to have made false representations to the complainant, Kodef Clearing Resources, claiming that President Buhari had shortlisted him and one other to be appointed as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and that he needed a short grant ‘to press and process the appointment.’

The fake General further proceeded to do the unthinkable – he allegedly forged a letter of appointment as COAS, purportedly signed by the President and showed the same to the victim to further prove his claim.

In the said letter, Oluwasegun claimed that he needed to pay a certain amount of money into the coffers of the Federal Government of Nigeria, as part of the requirements for the appointment as COAS.

In his bid to defraud the victim, the fake General also allegedly forged several documents and the signature of the President.

But nemesis caught up with him on Wednesday as he was arrested at his house in the Alagbado area of Lagos State.

Upon his arrest, startling and dangerous items were found in his possession- six pump action guns, three cartridge bullets, a swagger stick and several forged documents were recovered from him.

Operatives of the commission are now interrogating him over the propriety of the N270million fraud and the incriminating items in his possession.

When contacted, the EFCC’s Head of Media & Publicity, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the development.

He added that Oluwasegun will soon be charged to court once investigations have been concluded.
