Former first lady, Hajiya Hadiza Shagari, wife of former President Shehu Shagari is dead.
The former first lady died of coronavirus complications after contracting the deadly virus.
Confirming the development, the late former president’s son, Bala Shagari, through a statement on Thursday, said that Hadiza breathed her last at the Gwagwalada COVID-19 Isolation Center.
According to him, we lost her in the early hours of today, 12th August 2021, at about 3:00 am, after battling Covid-19 at the Gwagwalada Isolation Center in Abuja.
“Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari was 80 years old. Her Jana’iza (Funeral Prayer) will take place today, at 4:00pm, immediately after Asr prayer, at the National Mosque, Abuja,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the passing of former First Lady, Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari, widow of late President Shehu Shagari.
In a statement, the governor described the death of Hajiya Hadiza Shagari as painful, noting that she was gracious and dutiful in the discharge of her role.
According to him, “I am saddened by the news of the death of former First Lady, Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari, widow of late President Shehu Shagari.
“Hajiya was compassionate, kind and welcomed all with open arms. Her wise counsel will be sorely missed.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Edo State, I commiserate with Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Governor of Sokoto State, the entire Shagari Family as well as friends and associates of the family and pray that God will grant us all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
