The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that it is investigating seven indicted Customs officials who have been accused in a N12 billion bribery scandal.

According to a PREMIUM TIMES investigation, the anti-graft agency had already interrogated the seven senior officials of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and impounded some of the bribes they accepted.

The seven top officials are Ibrahim Jalo, Kayode Kolade, Mohammed Rabiu, Ibrahim Hamisu, Madugu Saleh, Umar Tafarki, and Nurudeen Musa.

According to reports, the anti-graft agency had linked N1.1 billion to Jalo, of which he had reimbursed N250 million and promised to repay the remaining amount; N126 million, on the other hand, had been linked to his PA, Umar Tafarki.

The Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) in Zone C, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Kayode Kolade, is another officer implicated in the story.

The indicted officials are still in their commands while the EFCC is yet to file any charge against them.

When contacted over the status of the matter, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said, “Is it when the investigation is completed that charges would be filed against them.

“ All I can tell you is that investigation is still ongoing against the Customs officials and necessary action will be taking against them shortly.”
