The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday, held a closed-door meeting with the National Security Adviser, (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and a few ministers at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, the Minister State for Agriculture, Sabi Abdullahi, Dr. Tahir Mamman, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Yemi Cardoso, and the Coordinating Minister of Finance, Wale Edun were among those who were present at the meeting, which started at about 5:30 p.m.

While the meeting’s agenda is still not officially made public, it was gathered that the meeting has something to do with food security, particularly in light of the growing costs of food, which are fueling protests in some states.

It was also gathered that the meeting was for the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention, convened by the Chief of Staff to the President.

The meeting was sequel to the demonstrations against the increasing cost of living in the nation by young people in Kano and women in Minna, Niger State.

It is important to note that a group of women in Minna, Niger State, barricaded the well known Kpakungu Roundabout on Monday, the busiest Minna-Bida Road, and demanded that President Bola Tinubu’s administration solve the issue of “hunger in the land.”

When security agents attempted to disperse the protests, the demonstrators responded by hurling items while the security agents used tear gas and made some arrests.

The Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, promised the young people that he would bring their grievances to the attention of the president when they staged protests in Kano against the hardships facing the country.
