The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Saturday’s governorship elections in Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu also won his re-election with a landslide victory and secured a fresh mandate for another four years
The INEC Returning Officer, Prof Adenike Oladiji, who made the declaration at about 1.15am in the early hours of Monday, stated that Sanwo-Olu scored 762,134 votes to defeat the closest challenger, the Labour Party (LP’s) candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes -Vivour, who polled 312,329 votes.

She added that Olajide Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came third with 62,449 votes.
Lagos is the commercial capital of Nigeria.

Prof Oladiji further announced that Sanwo-Olu scored 25 percent of the total number of votes and also the highest number of votes in the governorship race.

She also said the governor cleared 19 out of the 20 local government areas of the state.

According to the INEC Returning Officer, the Lagos Governor polled the highest number of votes in Ikeja, Apapa, Badagry, Lagos Island, Epe, Agege, Ibeju-lekki, Kosofe, Surulere and Somolu.

Others are Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos Mainland, Alimoso, Ojo, Ikorodu, Mushin, Oshodi-Isolo and Eti-Osa.

It is instructive to note that Rhodes-Vicour only won in one local government area — Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
