Three State Governors: Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); Nasir el-Rufai and Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Coucil for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III and other prominent dignitaries, on Saturday, attended the burial ceremony of Sardauna’s grandson, Magajin Garin Sokoto, Alhaji Hassan Danbaba, in Sokoto.
The 51-year-old Danbaba, slumped and died in Kaduna on Saturday afternoon according to family sources.
Leading the funeral prayers, the Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Muhammad Bello Akwara, said death is inevitable for all mortals and appealed to all and sundry to make their paths right with Allah while alive.
The remains of Danbaba were laid to rest according to Islamic rites at Binaci, few steps from Sultan’s Palace at the family cemetery of Magajin Garis.
Reacting to Danbaba’s death, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti- Corruption, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, in his condolence message, expressed grief over the sad incident.
The former Sokoto State Governor stated this in a statement made available last night by his spokesman, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal.
Wamakko, who described the late Danbaba as not only a distinguished gentleman, but also a respected traditional ruler that has contributed immensely to the development of Sokoto Caliphate and the nation in general. He added that Sokoto Caliphate has indeed lost a father and a respected leader.
Praying the Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds with Aljannat Firdaus, Wamakko stated that the late Magajin Gari lived a life of service to the Caliphate, Nigeria and humanity.
