Sit-at-home, Gunmen

Two professors were among those abducted when armed men on Tuesday morning attacked the Senior Staff Quarters of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) at the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

It was gathered that six people were abducted in the attack which occurred  at about 1am.

Those abducted were Prof. Bassey Ubom (including his son and daughter), Prof. Obanza Malam, Sambo  Mohammed and Dr. Tobit.

When contacted, the university’s spokesman, Habib Yakoob, confirmed the incident.

Also, the information was shared on the official Facebook page of the university.

The university said, “Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the university in the early hours of today.

“Our safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel, mobilised to secure the quarters.

“We have report that four of our staff and their children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men.

“Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return. A sad day for us, indeed! ”

Eyewitnesses confirmed to Theideal online during a telephone interview that the invaders forced their way into the houses of their victims through the windows, before abducting them.

In one of the houses, the ceiling and windows were reportedly broken while books, clothes, and other wares were littered on the floor

A colleague of one of the abductees – who does not want his name mentioned – said the operation lasted over two hours with heavy gunshots.

But a joint team of security operatives comprising personnel of the police, Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), are already at the scene.

Meanwhile, the FCT Police command is yet to react to the development.
