The Management of Gynescope Specialist Hospital has debunked media reports over the death of the late Mrs. Akudo Lovelyn John, saying that the narrative is false and misleading as the hospital tried its best to save the situation from the unfortunate incident.

In a statement made available on Saturday and signed by the hospital’s management, Gynescope acknowledged the widespread publications and commentaries surrounding the incident, describing the death as deeply unfortunate and emotionally painful.

The hospital further said, “At the outset, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to her husband, family, and loved ones. The loss of a cherished family member is profoundly painful, and we sincerely sympathize with the family during this difficult and emotional period. We recognize the depth of their grief and approach this matter with the utmost sensitivity, compassion, and respect.”

Gynescope also explained that its initial decision to remain silent was not an attempt to evade scrutiny, but a conscious choice rooted in respect for the deceased and consideration for the family at a time of mourning.

According to the statement, “Our initial silence was deliberate. It was motivated by respect for the memory of the deceased and consideration for the family as they mourned their loss.”

The hospital management , however, said the persistence of what it described as inaccurate narratives and misleading claims, promoted its response to clarify the situation .

“However, in view of the continued circulation of narratives that do not accurately reflect the circumstances surrounding the medical care provided, we consider it necessary to offer this clarification in the interest of fairness and truth.”

Addressing the core of the controversy, Gynescope Specialist Hospital insisted that Mrs. John received care from qualified and experienced medical professionals who acted swiftly and in line with accepted medical standards.

The hospital also stated that, “The patient was attended to by qualified and experienced medical professionals who acted promptly, responsibly, and in strict accordance with established medical standards and protocols.” It further stated that all available measures were taken to save her life.

“All reasonable and available medical interventions were deployed in a sustained effort to preserve her life,” the hospital said, adding that the response went beyond routine effort. “These efforts included extraordinary measures, such as voluntary blood donation by members of our medical and management team who were compatible and present during her care.”

The hospital further took strong exception to some reports circulating in the public domain, warning that the misleading and false reports are capable of deepening the family’s pain while unfairly damaging professional reputations.

Gynescope said, “We wish to state unequivocally that certain reports and statements currently circulating in the public domain are misleading, incomplete, and do not present a fair or accurate account of the events.

“Such narratives risk causing unnecessary distress to the bereaved family and unjustly impugning the integrity and professionalism of medical practitioners who acted in good faith, with diligence, and in the best interests regarding this non-obstetric mortality.”

Reaffirming its institutional values, Gynescope described itself as a hospital built on reverence for life and strict ethical practice.

It said, “Gynescope Specialist Hospital is an institution founded on respect for human life, compassion for patients, and adherence to the highest ethical and professional standards. Our practice is guided by sound medical judgment, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to patient-centred care.”

On regulatory oversight, the hospital said it was not shielding itself from scrutiny and would continue to exhibit professionalism and submit to due process.

The hospital said, “We remain fully cooperative with all relevant regulatory and statutory authorities and will continue to engage the appropriate professional bodies in accordance with due process and established procedures.”

As public interest in the case continues to grow, the hospital appealed for restraint in public discourse and media reportage, especially given the emotional weight of the situation.

Gynescope said, “We respectfully urge the public and the media to exercise restraint, empathy, and responsibility in their reportage, particularly on matters involving bereavement, while we continue to uphold our duty of care to our patients and their families.”

The statement concluded with a renewed expression of sympathy, returning the focus to the human cost of the loss, saying that, “Once again, our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this profoundly difficult time. We share in their sorrow as they mourn the loss of a wife, a mother, and a loved one.”
