The Inspector General of Police (IG) Kayode Egbetokun has acknowledged the impact of President Bola Tinubu in his life and career, saying that a chance meeting with Tinubu in 1998 transformed his life within 24 hours.
Egbetokun stated this during the unveiling of a book titled “Readings in Policing, Peace, and Security” in Abuja on Tuesday.
Egbetokun further expressed his gratitude to God for the support he has received throughout his career and hinted at sharing more details of his experiences at a later time.
He said “Today, I stand before you with a heart full of gratitude. My career and life are reflections of God’s grace. Meeting President Tinubu in 1998 was a life-changing event for me. I look forward to sharing more about this transformative experience in the future.”
The IG emphasized that the newly unveiled book will serve as a crucial reference and source of inspiration for young law enforcement officers..
He said, “Readings in Policing, Peace, and Security” is not only a valuable resource for scholars and practitioners but also aims to inspire the next generation of officers in Nigeria.”
Tinubu, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, praised the book as a fitting tribute to Egbetokun.
Tinubu also highlighted Egbetokun’s unwavering dedication to justice and security, noting his significant contributions during his tenure as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) when Tinubu was Lagos State Governor.
The President said, “The book embodies the essence of our nation’s security efforts and honours Dr. Kayode Egbetokun’s remarkable service. His integrity and professionalism have made a lasting impact on Nigeria’s policy landscape.”
Tinubu also commended the Society for Peace Studies and Practice and its collaborators for their efforts in celebrating excellence through the publication.
“This anthology of research and reflective articles is a timely and essential resource for law enforcement in Nigeria. Egbetokun is a distinguished figure in our nation’s security sector,” he added.
