The new President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), has disclosed that the association under his watch will hold federal and state governments accountable.

Osigwe stated this in Lagos on Thursday after his inauguration as the 32nd President of the NBA.

Osigwe succeeds former NBA President, Mr. Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), whose tenure came to an end on Thursday.

He said, “Under my watch, the Nigerian Bar Association will not shy away from holding the federal and state governments accountable. The rule of law must be upheld, and the rights of Nigerians must be protected.

“I am deeply honoured by this responsibility, and I pledge to work tirelessly to advance the interests of our members and the broader Nigerian society.”

Osigwe, who was the former Secretary General of the NBA, won the presidential election with 20,435 votes while the Chairperson of NBA Institute of Continuing Legal Education Board chairperson Tobenna Erojikw, came second with 20,998 votes

The former chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, Chukwuka Ikwuazom, received 9,018 votes to occupy the third position.

But hours before the conclusion of the online voting, Ikwuazom signified his intention to withdraw from the presidential race, accusing someone of rigging the results.
