Iran has launched a fresh missile barrage towards Jerusalem after it vowed “heavy and destructive” attacks.

Israeli Police said it received reports of a fallen explosive device in a community in the Northern District.

Initial reports indicated that there were several casualties and damage at the scene.

Iranian state TV said more than 100 missiles were launched in the second wave of their operation “True Promise 3”.

Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer has announced RAF jets are being sent to the Middle East, after Iran threatened to target UK, French and US bases if the countries help stop strikes on Israel.

The prime minister said further military assets are being deployed to provide “contingency support” across the region amid escalating hostilities between the two long-time foes.

Earlier on Saturday, Iran’s state TV said that “heavy and destructive” attacks by Iran against Israel were expected within the coming hours, as the Israeli military continues to strike several targets across Iran.

Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, said Israel’s campaign would intensify, while Tehran called off nuclear talks that Washington had held out as the only way to halt the bombing.

Woman dead after strikes on Northern Israel

A woman in her 20s has died after Irani missile strikes on Northern Israel.

Israel’s emergency service Magen David Adom (MDA) said the woman, who was pulled from the rubble, was in a two-storey house in Western Galilee.

It added 14 people were injured from the strikes.

Seven people are being taken to hospital, MDA said.

One person was in critical condition and the others had “degrees of injury”.

Iran says Shahran oil depot targeted in Israeli attack

Iran said the Shahran oil depot in Tehran was targeted in an Israeli attack on Saturday but that the “situation was under control”.

“The fuel volume in the targeted tank was not high, and the situation is fully under control,” Iran’s oil ministry said according to SHANA news agency.

Lammy calls for de-escalation in conversation with Israeli counterpart

Foreign secretary David Lammy has said he had spoken to his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar and expressed concern for civilians in Israel.

“I reiterated the UK’s call for a de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East,” Mr Lammy said in a post on social media platform X.

“Now is the time for restraint, calm and a return to diplomacy,” he added.

Von der Leyen says she and Trump discussed Middle East and Ukraine

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says she held a call with former US President Donald Trump ahead of the G7 Summit, focusing on global tensions and transatlantic cooperation.

In a post on X, Ms von der Leyen said they discussed the “tense geopolitical situation” in the Middle East and the need for close coordination to manage the impact on global energy markets.

The two also spoke about the war in Ukraine, with Ms von der Leyen stressing the “imperative for a ceasefire” and the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia.
