Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday, announced a donation of N200 million and N50 million to victims of the recent fire disasters at Singer and Kurmi markets respectively.
The markets were engulfed by fire, which razed down many shops, causing the owners to lose items worth several millions of naira as well as other unquantifiable valuables.
The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, who made the disclosure in a press statement, said the release of the fund was aimed at providing an immediate succour to the affected traders who lost their valuables to the fire.
He said the leadership of the traders’ associations in the markets had been formally presented with the cheques of N250million by the governor at the Government House, Kano.
Also, Malam Garba said the state government would look into other ways of supporting the traders after studying the recommendations of the committee that had been set up in the next five days.
Commiserating with victims of the inferno, Ganduje called on individuals and organizations to support the traders in every way humanly possible.
He prayed to Allah in His infinite mercy to prevent future recurrence of the fire disaster.
