The Emir of Jega in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammadu Arzika, has conferred the traditional title of Tafidan Jega on the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.

The former EFCC boss and his uncle, Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya Bawa, were conferred with their traditional titles by the royal father at his palace.

Bawa is now the Tafidan Jega while his uncle Alhaji Ibrahim Bawa, a former executive director of services of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) was given the title of Chigari Jega.

In his speech during the conferment of the titles on the duo, the royal father, who welcomed the former EFCC boss home after his retirement from the anti-graft agency, assured him of the courtesies demanded of his traditional title and the cooperation of the people of Jega and environs.

The Royal father also reminded Bawa that as Tafidan Jega, one of his tasks is to guide the timely completion of all the development projects within the Emirate and ensure they touch the lives of the people positively.

Arzika further assured Bawa that he has his uncle, the Chigarin Jega as a reliable ally.

In their remarks, both Tafidan Bawa and Chigari Ibrahim thanked the traditional ruler for the honour done to them and their entire family and assured him of unalloyed loyalty to him and members of the royal council.

Speaking during the event, which was the first public engagement after leaving office as the EFCC Chairman, Bawa expressed gratitude to the Emir for the honour done to him and his uncle as well as the entire family, assuring his loyalty to the monarch and the entire Emirate Council.

It is important to note that Bawa was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on February 16, 2021 and confirmed by the Senate on February 24, 2021 as the EFCC boss.

The former EFCC Chairman was arrested and detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) on June 14, 2023, following an invite over undisclosed reasons after he visited President Bola Tinubu earlier on the same day.

Bawa, however, regained his freedom on October 25, 2023 after spending about 100 days in detention.
