The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), has directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to provide daily report of flight delays across all airports in the country.
According to Keyamo, such a report should be made available to him on a daily basis.
The minister spoke at the ongoing stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos.
Keyamo made the comments against the backdrop of the persistent flight delays in the aviation industry with passengers expressing frustration and anger with airlines.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, had raised the issue of flight delays, saying it had become an hydra-headed monster in the industry.
He said when flights are delayed or cancelled, there should be alternatives to protect the passengers.
Incidentally, airline operators had also insisted that almost 100 percent of the causes of delay are not within the purview of airlines.
But Keyamo, who said he was tired of getting complaints on flight delays from passengers, said the daily report of delays must be made available to the Nigerian public.
According to him, the development will help in educating the passengers on the issue of flight delays.
Responding, the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Musa Nuhu, said, “I quite agree with you that we need to do more on the issue of consumer protection.”
