Lai, Beware

*Says, opposition party desperate to return to power in 2023

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has  raised the alarm over the alleged plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  to sabotage the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Information Minister stated this in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.

Lai Mohammmed also claimed that the opposition party is  trying to trigger another EndSARS protest to overheat the polity.

The minister,  who urged the opposition not to promote anarchy, also faulted attempts by the PDP to declare the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) illegal.

Theideal recalls that the PDP had filed a legal action, asking a Federal High Court in Abuja  to declare the concluded national convention as  unconstitutional and illegal.

In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/389 2022,  the PDP also sought a court order deregistering the APC as a political party, saying that the ruling party has  failed to meet the requirements of Sections 222(a), 223(b) and 225 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Reacting to the development, Mohammed said: “As you know, the folks on the other side have been doing everything in recent times to overheat the polity, distort the achievements of our Administration and spread misinformation.

”Yes, it is very cold out there for the hungry and desperate opposition, but every indication is that they don’t even want to wait for the 2023 elections before testing their popularity or acceptability at the polls.

”How else does one explain their court case seeking the declaration of our convention as illegal? How do you explain their threat of another EndSARS that pushed Nigerians to the brink? How do you explain their glaring misinformation regarding the nation’s state of affairs?”

The minister further alleged that the PDP is  desperate to return to power in 2023, adding that such desperate move was responsible for its plan “to sabotage” the APC- led government.

“Gentlemen, there is nothing wrong in having a fiery and viable opposition in a democracy. We were there before and we remain the ones to beat in terms of determined, viable, and relentless opposition. But, in our time, not once did we advocate the destruction of Nigeria just because we couldn’t have our way’’.
