Nwoko

A business mogul and Chairman of Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation, Hon Ned Chinedu Nwoko, on Monday, emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Delta North Senatorial District for 2023 general elections.

Nwoko defeated his closest opponent,  Mr Paul Osaji, in the Senate Primary held in Asaba with 242 votes as against 67 votes polled by Osaji.

A philanthropist and husband of Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, Nwoko was a former member of House of Representatives, representing the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in 1999-2003.

Nwoko had in 2019, contested the PDP Senate primary but lost to the incumbent, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, in a keenly contested election.

Declaring Nwoko as the winner of the poll, the PDP Election Returning Officer, Mr Nosa Omagbon and his team, Mr Johnbull Edema and Kelly Penawou, said the total accredited delegates were 310.

Omagbon later declared Nwoko as the winner and the PDP candidate for 2023 Senate election for scoring a total of 242 votes as against 67 votes scored by Oseji.

In an interview with journalists, Nwoko said the victory was the beginning of a new dawn in Delta, particularly the Delta North, saying that he is  confident of victory during the general election.

Nwoko  also assured the party faithful  that his presence in the National Assembly would impact the generality of the country in areas of economy, security and infrastructural development, saying that he would ensure that malaria eradication gets the necessary attention.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the election was peaceful and monitored by a team of joint security agents, the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the media.
