Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have confirmed the collapse of a five storey building collapsed under construction at Ladipo Oluwole, GRA Apapa area of Lagos.

The building collapsed due to a thunder strike orchestrated by heavy rains in the early hours of Sunday at 45 Ladipo Oluwole, GRA, Apapa area of the state.

Southwest coordinator of NEMA, Ibrahim Fanloye, told newsmen that the five storey building was officially sealed by the official of Lagos State Building Control Agency while under construction.

“The latest building collapse in Lagos comes barely 72 hours after a seven story building collapsed in Bananna Island area of the state.

“The collapse of the building in Apapa was due to thunder strike orchestrated by heavy rains early today.

“A volunteer with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ajeromi Ifelodun LCDA, Asimiyu Tiamiyu, who was among the early callers at the scene said no casualty was recorded in the incident.

“All the workers at the site of the collapsed building had embarked on Sallah break, the reason why no one was involved in the incident,” he said.

He added that the state government should beam a searchlight on the recurring incidents of collapsed building, which had claimed many lives and property worth billions of naira.
