The Chairman of the Capital Market Solicitors Association (CMSA), Odiaka Vincent Iweze, has disclosed that the recently enacted Investment and Securities Act 2025, which repeals the 2007 legislation, will revolutionize Nigeria’s capital market with far-reaching reforms to boost investor confidence and expand market opportunities, especially in the emerging digital assets sector.

Iweze, who stated this on Thursday during a media parley in Lagos, described the new law as a landmark development that aligns Nigeria’s capital market framework with global best practices.

The CMSA Chairman also highlighted that the Act significantly strengthens investor protection, enhances regulatory oversight, and introduces tougher enforcement mechanisms — all designed to reposition Nigeria’s financial ecosystem for the future.

He said, “This legislation is a defining moment for the Nigerian capital market. It creates a more robust legal framework that not only safeguards investors but also opens up new opportunities for participation, particularly in the rapidly growing digital assets space. “

Iweze also announced that the CMSA’s 2025 Annual Business Summit (ABS) will hold on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in Lagos with a theme titled: “The Investment and Securities Act 2025: Innovations and Opportunities in the Nigerian Capital Market.”

According to the CMSA Chairman, the event will focus on unpacking the reforms and exploring their implications for market stakeholders.

Since its founding in 2001, the CMSA has played a critical role in fostering legal excellence and driving regulatory reforms in Nigeria’s capital market. The Annual Business Summit serves as a flagship platform where solicitors, regulators, investors, financial institutions, and policymakers converge to share insights and shape the future of the industry.

This year’s Summit promises to be particularly impactful, featuring a fire-side chat and panel discussions with leading experts addressing key themes such as reforms, innovations, and opportunities under the new Act.

Participation in the Summit is free but requires pre-registration. The event is generously sponsored by member firms and corporate partners, with the CMSA inviting further sponsorships and partnerships from organisations across the financial and legal sectors interested in aligning with its vision.

“We look forward to a stimulating and insightful dialogue that will inspire growth and development across the Nigerian capital market,” Iweze concluded.
