Nigeria has dropped again in the 2021 Corruption Perception Index (CPI), according to the 2021 ranking released on Tuesday by Transparency International (TI).
According to the ranking, Nigeria scored 24 out of 100 points in the 2021 index, dropping five places, ranking 154 out of 180 countries.
This is the second consecutive year of Nigeria witnessing a downward spiral on the TI’s CPI ranking. In 2020, it dropped to 25, and further went down to 24 in the latest (2021) record.
TI’s tool for measuring the levels of corruption in the systems of various countries around the world is based on corruption perception index and not the reality in such countries.
The minimum points a country can score is zero point, while the maximum is 100 points. Zero stands for the worse performing countries, while 100 stands for signifies the best-ranked countries.
