The Northern Youth Congress of Nigeria (NYCN) has thrown its weight behind the appointment of Hon. Kayode Oladele as Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), describing him as the right man to lead the agency and calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to confirm him as the substantive chairman.

In a statement signed by its National President, Ambassador Auwalu Mohammed Majiri, the NYCN commended President Tinubu for what it called “a demonstration of his commitment to meritocracy and good governance” by appointing Oladele to head the Commission in acting capacity.

The group said Oladele, a former federal lawmaker and human rights lawyer, brings to the position “vast knowledge, experience, and an impeccable track record of service,” which it said are crucial for promoting fairness, equity, and inclusivity in the distribution of public offices and resources across Nigeria’s diverse population.

“Hon. Kayode Oladele’s impressive record of integrity, leadership and institutional reform, earned over years of dedicated service in public office and the NGO sector, makes him the ideal choice for this role,” the NYCN said. “We have every confidence that he will deliver outstanding results as the Executive Chairman of the FCC.”

The NYCN also called on the management and staff of the FCC and all stakeholders across the country to cooperate fully with Oladele and support him to succeed in delivering on the agency’s mandate. It urged President Tinubu to confirm Oladele as substantive chairman, saying his confirmation would ensure stability and continuity in the Commission’s leadership, enabling it to better fulfill its constitutional duty of promoting national unity through equitable representation.

“The Federal Character Commission plays a critical role in ensuring that government institutions reflect the diversity of Nigeria,” the group noted. “We believe that under Hon. Oladele’s leadership, this important objective will be advanced, and the Commission will continue to serve as a beacon of fairness and equal opportunity for all Nigerians.”

The NYCN, which represents youths across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, pledged its support for Oladele and reiterated its confidence in his ability to drive the FCC towards greater impact.

“We are certain that his tenure will deepen national unity, foster integration, and promote sustainable development across the country,” the statement concluded.
