The presidential candidate of the Labour Party ((LP) in the 2023 poll, Mr Peter Obi, has abandoned his party and directed his supporters, Obidients to vote for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in today’s by-elections across the country.
According to Obi, the LP has no recognised candidates for the polls due to its unresolved internal crisis and, therefore, should not be considered by his supporters.
The former Anambra State governor made this appeal in a statement posted on his X handle on Thursday.
By-elections are scheduled to hold in 16 states, covering two senatorial seats, five House of Representatives seats, and nine State Assembly seats.
Advising members of his political base to vote for the ADC candidates , Obi said, “Kindly note that because the Labour Party has no recognised candidates by INEC due to the internal crisis.
“I humbly urge every member of Obidients and COPDEM families to go out and vote for the coalition political party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), in their respective states.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed preparations for the elections, which are expected to be closely watched amid Nigeria’s shifting political alliances.
