A pall of grief has descended upon Egbaland, Yewaland, and the entire Ogun State, following the passing of the esteemed Iya Sunnah, Chief Mrs. Kadijat Adebisi Edionseri, affectionately known throughout the land as “Cash Madam.”

The revered matriarch breathed her last at the age of 89 while her transition was announced by her son, Dr. Adebayo Adebowale, on behalf of the bereaved family.

According to Dr. Adebowale, her passing followed a brief illness. He also expressed the family’s profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for the impactful life and enduring legacy of their mother, whose name as “Cash Madam” was known far and wide.

In a statement made available to journalists, Dr. Adebowale said, “With hearts full of thanksgiving to Allah for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passage of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Princess Kadijat Abike Adebisi Edionseri (née Elegbede). She went home to be with her Creator on January 5th, 2025, at the age of 89, after a short illness.”

Dr. Adebowale further eulogized his mother, describing her as an embodiment of grace, dignity, and unwavering faith.

He said, “Her life was a shining example of these virtues. Princess Edionseri touched countless lives through her profound wisdom, genuine kindness, and unyielding commitment to her family and the community.

“She instilled in us the values of love, resilience, and absolute faith in Allah, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.”

The family also announced that the Janazah prayers and funeral rites for the late Iya Sunnah will be observed according to Islamic tradition on Monday, January 6, 2025 at about 4pm.

The solemn ceremony will be held at her residence in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Abeokuta.

Family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers from across the state and beyond are invited to attend and pay their final respects to this illustrious daughter of Ogun State, and celebrate the life of this great woman.

The late Chief Mrs. Edionseri, widely known as “Cash Madam,” was a woman of immense influence and distinction.

She was greatly admired for her acts of selfless philanthropy, her astute business acumen, and her tireless devotion to the socio-economic development of Egbaland and Ogun State as a whole.

Her significant contributions to society will be eternally remembered, and her absence will be deeply felt by all those who had the privilege of knowing and admiring her. Her memory will continue to be a blessing.
