The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, reserved its judgment in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, David Ombugadu, against the Court of Appeal judgment reinstating the Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The five-member panel led by a Justice of the Supreme Court (JSC), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun adjourned the matter for judgment after the parties adopted their briefs of argument.

JSC Kekere-Ekun added that the parties would be informed when judgment is ready.

The state election petitions tribunal had earlier sacked Governor Sule and declared David Ombugadu, candidate of the PDP the winner of the March 18, 2023 election.

The tribunal led by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, in a split decision of two-to-one, held that having evaluated the evidence before the panel, the PDP candidate substantiated his claim that the poll results were manipulated in favour of Governor Sule.

But the Court of Appeal later upturned the tribunal’s verdict and reinstated Governor Sule, saying that the tribunal wrongly relied on the evidence of eight of the PDP witnesses, whose statements on oath were not front-loaded alongside the petition.

Dissatisfied, the PDP and Ombugadu approached the Supreme Court for redress, asking the apex court to set aside the Court of Appeal judgement and affirm the tribunal’s verdict which ruled in their favour.
