Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday took a swipe at opposition leaders following the dismal performance of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Saturday’s by-elections.
In a post on X, Onanuga shared a picture of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai with the caption “How is the market now?”
The comment, widely interpreted as a taunt, has reignited debates about the strength and relevance of opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai, who have been vocal about forming a coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu, had pitched their tent with the ADC during the polls as a test of political strength.
However, results showed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured the majority of the contested seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) managed to record some victories.
